Sony sets to convince customers of the potential of virtual reality through an interesting promotion-- a 14-day in-home PlayStation VR trial sent to select PlayStation Plus subscribers.

PSVR trialThe trial consists of a demo kit complete with headset, PlayStation Camera, two Move controllers and a copy of Skyrim VR. Should the user be impressed enough to want to buy the kit, they can keep it for the price of $300, a discount over the regular $450 retail pricetag of the Skyrim PSVR bundle.

The program opened on 1 December 2017 with 1400 slots, and signups are already closed off due to demand. But will demand for the trial actually lead to more PSVR sales? It is hard to tell, since the only headset sales numbered offered by the company is that of 1 million units sold between the October 2016 launch and June 2017.

In turn, Canalys declared Sony as the current VR headset leader, with 49% Q3 2017 market share through shipments reaching 490000.
