Sony Adds XAV-AX200, MEX-GS820BT Head Units

Sony announces a pair of in-auto audio systems-- the XAV-AX200 DVD receiver and the top-of-the-line MEX-GS820BT, both offering improved smartphone connectivity and a user-friendly UI.

Sony autoThe XAV-AX200 is a sequel to the XAV-AX100. It features the same Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility for integration with a wide range of smartphones, together with a 6.4-inch touchscreen. Also included are a DVD player, SiriusXM connectivity and external 3-camera input allowing passengers to view images from up to 3 connected cameras (one reverse view and two manually chosen cameras).

On the audio side, a high-voltage pre-out lessens distortion with the built-in 4-channel 55W amplifier, while a 10-band equaliser with 10 presents provides easy frequency adjustments. FLAC audio compatibility is included via USB, while control comes through configurable steering wheel input covering general command protocol.

Meanwhile the MEX-GS820BT is audio focused, with a built-in 100W class-D amp, digital signal processing and dynamic stage organiser. It expands to accomodate Sony XB-series speakers, is SiriusXM-ready and has a 5V pre-out and AOA 2.0 compatible dual USB terminals. Steering wheel input is also configurable.

Dual Bluetooth connection with one-touch NFC pairing allows both driver and passenger to connect their smartphones simultaneously, with voice control on Android phones and Siri Eyes Free for iPhones. Customers can select the display illumnination colour from a choice of 35000 variations through Dynamic Colour Illumination, and Sony beat-sensing technology allows the LED to change colour and pulse according to either sound pressure or music backbeat.

The XAV-AX200 and MEX-GS820BT should be available by end 2017.
